Falsettos

Wilshire Theatre, Los Angeles

This show was a benefit for Actor's, I'm assuming in the LA area. It had some big names...Jason Alexander, John McDaniel at the piano, the guy from Caroline in the City, the lady from numerous TV shows who I can't remember her name off-hand. This is also supposed to be a pretty famous show from what I can tell of the folklore of theatre. I didn't even stay for the whole thing. There just didn't seem to be any story that was actually progressing. First off, this is the theatre where they shoot Last Comic Standing, so there were a bunch of TV cameras in the back of the balcony. My ticket put me smack dab behind these cameras. I told the usher and he just had me wait and then find my own seat once the show started. It wasn't hard since there were quite a few empty seats, but it's kind of annoying. Why did they issue me a seat behind the cut-off point?? No one else was sitting back there.
Then the show didn't start until almost 9 o'clock. Again...annoying! I understand it was a fund-raiser and they wanted to give people plenty of time to browse around the things they had up for auction, but come on...instill a little structure people.
I suppose if another production of this came around again I'd be willing to give it another shot, but it just wasn't wowing me that night. The fact that I was willing to just leave at the intermission says something because I'll usually give everything at least till the end. I don't have to like it, but I've spent the money and I want to see the show. Not this time.
