Pasadena Playhouse, Pasadena
It's actually been close to a year since I've seen this show. I'm catching up here on the blog.
This production starred Lawrence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. Two huge personalities.
It's a play by August Wilson. He wrote one play for each decade of the 20th century describing the life of the african american in Philadelphia. They're very well known and this production was wonderful. Great costumes, sets, and the acting was phenominal.
The Pasadena Playhouse seems to consistently do quality work. More and more I see the productions leaning towards a more ethnic audience, but I don't mind that. Diversity is what Los Angeles is all about.

The Chance Theatre, Anaheim Hills
I heard about this production on the BroadwayWorld message board. They said this was a very creative production and everyone in the area should go check it out. They were absolutely right. This huge show was pared down to the essentials and was extremely effective in getting the story across. The costumes were simple, but you got the idea. It was kind of Sondheim on a budget. You can't argue with supporting local theatre, though. It was new and innovative and I will definitely look into future productions that this organization puts on.
